stranger met three different people and gave each one of them a gold plate.
1. A beggar who has never seen gold in his life received a gold plate. He used the plate for begging. 2. A Middle-class family man who is trying to put his daughter in a top university. He was so happy to receive the gold plate, as he sold it and got his financial burden uplifted. 3. A Rich-Man, who got this gold plate, made a separate chest for this gift and made sure that this gets passed on from generation to generation. We all take care of our spouse, children, parents, friends, etc. as they are all a gift to our life. But what about yourself? Isn't it similar to the above story? Unless whom we are associated with, understands that WE are GOLD. We all either get Used, Abused or Treasured. Mostly not based on bad intentions, just based on ignorance and circumstances of life. There is a saying in my language. We cannot choose our parents and children. However, we can still determine our Spouse and Friends. Choose them wisely as they all treat you as the Rich-Man treated his GOLD. Every day morning at 6.00, when I steal time for a quick walk, I see a healthy elderly gentleman Mr. Robinson at 75 years of age, with his dog waves at me, "Hi Mano, How are you." I smile and respond back to him saying "I am doing very well, thank you, sir." It is our daily routine. And I keep saying to myself, even if I am half as healthy as Mr. Robinson at his age, I would be very grateful.
More recently, Mr. Robinson, with his dog and a gadget around his neck, sitting on a pavement on the end of our street, gazes at me saying, "Hi, When did you move in." I smile and respond "That was five years ago." And he is very puzzled to hear that. As I walk past him, the energetic look on his face was gone and replaced with confusion and sorrow. I came to know that he has a visitor that Americans fear. "Alzheimer Disease." He is not allowed to go beyond the end of our street. The gadget around his neck is a tracking device so that he does not get lost in the wilderness of our next street. As a geek, I welcome this brave new world of Bots, AI, VR, AR, Smart Assistant, Machine Learning, Smart Analytics, Big Data, Smart Cars, Smart Cities and IOT. However, all these enable certain comfortability at an affordable price on a day to day life. As the last decade, Smart Phone revolution have connected Billions of people with all walks of life. Starting from a farmer in a developing country who is using the technology to know harsh weathers to Kim Kardashian, who uses the same technology to pose nude selfies. But what have these technologies done to the quality of human life, more precisely "The Health". Is the tracking device over the neck is the best that we can do for Mr. Robinson. Where is the disruption in the health sector? Connecting with doctors/bots who is going to interact with us and providing general analysis on the common flu/cold, a mobile app that searches the doctor in the local neighborhood provides a review, which schedules an appointment, a Skype chat with a doctor and accessing the record of a patient over a cloud are not groundbreaking revolution. These technologies have put a cool gadget on doctor's hands but have not done anything for Mr. Robinson other than a gadget around his Neck and a Mobile app that tracks both the dog and Mr. Robinson. Technology should have a profound impact on Mankind. My fellow citizens of silicon valley, please disrupt the health. Put memories back to Mr. Robinson. Maybe all his memories are stored in a cloud which I call it as an external brain, and when this disease hits him hard, he relies on this external brain that communicates with the local brain and helps Mr. Robinson to wave at me with a smile and not with a gaze. From Brand Perspective: The brand Microsoft always gets associated with Prosumers. The name LinkedIn also attracts Prosumers. It is a great match. However, LinkedIn had a goal of connecting all the working professional under one roof. LinkedIn Brand was only going to add value to Microsoft and not the other way around.
LinkedIN a league of its own: Facebook connects people in big time (1BN DAU & 60BN messages per day), the distant second in a different league(professionals) is LinkedIn. Facebook for business is supposed to come out soon. Until then there is no competition to LinkedIn. LinkedIn Stocks Fell: Back in 2016 LinkedIn stock fell. Google and Facebook have 75% of Ad Spend as per 2016 Trend Report, which leaves 25% of the Ad spend to the rest of these big companies. Also, LinkedIn relies more on subscription based model which is a very tricky business as the people cancel their subscription if they do not see value in it. Even though it is a great place to network which is provided for free, their incremental value that they provide through subscription is not a must have for all professionals. LinkedIn Buyout for Start Up Companies:
One of the key element that determines the success of a platform is the applications. Over the last years, consumers are trained to go to a play store/app store where the apps are curated, rated, categorized, featured, tested and presented to the audience. App stores determine a platform's success and failure. Windows, FirefoxOS, Ubuntu OS, perished or on the way to end of its days because of lack of app ecosystem. Given this dilemma, Google brings all its play store apps to Chrome OS. Even though chromeOS volume is still way lesser than Android volume, it is welcome news for Android developers. It seems the developers do not have to change their app drastically to make it available for Chrome OS. Android on Chrome OS will run on a Linux container. Hence, there’s no performance penalty — both Chrome OS and Android will use the same kernel and resources on the Chrome OS machine.
What role does app stores play in IOT ? Lets discuss that in our next blog entry. We measure the employees by goals and objectives. We measure company's social responsibility by its donations, culture deck and green products. However how do we measure our joy, compassion, love, positive impact. How many people miss working with you ? Here is a old blog post from some one whom I respect called Rajesh Shetty. Metrics that Matter the Most
Japan is showing big numbers, conversion rates on mobile are over 4 times higher than those in the US. China also saw huge gains, on Singles Day in November 2015 Alibaba received 69% of its $14.3 billion worth of orders from a mobile device. The approximately $10 billion figure is more than double the total online sales the United States saw on Black Friday.
